Tip

Did you know some speech difficulties are hereditary? Stuttering often runs in  families usually effecting boys to girls 3 to 1.

Language Opportunities

Providing opportunities for your child to speak to you, gives them great experiences with language development. Offer choices, "Johnny do  want the car or the truck?"  or " Would you like more juice?" Can you tell me 'more juice?' "

       Did you know?.....
Stuttering appears to frequently run in families.  There is also evidence that stuttering may be closely associated with some neurological deficits. Quite often, psychological components may make symptoms appear worse or even better in some cases.

    Apraxia of Speech
Apraxia is a motor-planning disorder in which the brain sends a signal to the articulators involved for speech (lips, tongue, and jaw), however, when the signal travels from the brain to the articulators, it somehow becomes scrabbled.  Children with Apraxia are often seen exhibiting "groping" behavior in which they have difficulty placing the articulators in the appropriate position for speech.
