"Wh" Questions

"Wh" questions should be introduced as a hierarchy. This allows children to progressively move toward higher levels of analytical thinking:

Who- Person (2-3 yrs)

What-Things, animals (2-4 yrs.)

Where-Place (4-5 yrs.)

When- Time Day/Night

(4-5 yrs.)

Why-Explaining

(5 yrs.+ )
